Let’s explore what makes Bethnal&Bec so special, their journey, and what this recognition means for them.

A Unique Luxury Experience

Bethnal&Bec Luxury Stays is an adult-only retreat nestled in the charming village of Cottered, Hertfordshire. It’s the perfect spot for anyone needing a break from the daily grind. You can enjoy long countryside walks, leisurely lunches at local pubs, or just binge-watch Netflix on the Smart TVs in each retreat.

Each retreat is equipped with every imaginable home comfort. You’ll find wood-burning stoves for cosy evenings, luxury bathrooms for a spa-like experience, and private outdoor deep-soaking jacuzzi baths. There’s even an honesty larder stocked with delicious treats. Here, you can truly relax, surrounded by wildflower meadows and uninterrupted countryside views.

The Beginnings of Bethnal&Bec

Bethnal&Bec’s story began in 2017. Founders Vicky and Chris met online in September 2015. They quickly decided to merge their lives and families, moving to Cottered from their homes in Tooting Bec and Bethnal Green, London. Inspired by their new surroundings and their dream of a family business, they transformed the dilapidated stables attached to their house into two luxury self-catering rural retreats. Thus, Bethnal&Bec was born.

In 2021, they expanded with the introduction of a third retreat, The Foaling Box. Each retreat has been meticulously curated to offer a unique and memorable experience to every guest.

The Award

Becoming a finalist for the Visit England Award is a significant achievement for Bethnal&Bec. This accolade not only recognises their excellence but also shines a spotlight on Hertfordshire as a destination worth exploring. Vicky and Chris are immensely proud and excited, showcasing their commitment to providing an exceptional retreat experience.

For Vicky and Chris, running Bethnal&Bec is more than just a business; it’s a passion. They love being part of their guests’ journeys, helping them create lasting memories. As parents to four children, aged 11 to 18, they understand the importance of finding moments of rest, relaxation, and fun. Their personal experiences fuel their dedication to ensuring that every guest enjoys their stay to the fullest.

Creativity is at the heart of Bethnal&Bec. From beautifully curated interiors to thoughtful little touches, every detail is designed to make guests feel special. This creativity drives their ability to offer such a unique and luxurious experience.

Giving Back to the Community

Bethnal&Bec isn’t just about luxury; it’s also about giving back. In November 2018, Vicky was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. This personal challenge inspired them to support cancer charities regularly. They donate nights away to these charities and offer permanent discounts to NHS and care home/hospice staff. Vicky even founded True Cancer Bodies, and they recently became patrons of the charity Something To Look Forward.

During the third lockdown, Bethnal&Bec went above and beyond by offering free accommodation to those needing respite from domestic abuse. They provided shelter to 30 families, including their pets and children, along with free food and hot meals. The support from the local community was overwhelming, with donations, gifts, and offers of help. This initiative was both humbling and rewarding for Vicky and Chris, highlighting their commitment to making a positive impact.

Looking to the Future

Bethnal&Bec is always looking forward, and their next exciting project is in the works. They are building a family-friendly retreat in Suffolk, which will be powered entirely by regenerative energy. This eco-friendly and sustainable project reflects their dedication to environmental responsibility and their desire to offer even more incredible experiences to their guests.

So, if you’re looking for a place to escape, relax, and create wonderful memories, look no further than Bethnal&Bec. With their stunning retreats, beautiful surroundings, and commitment to excellence, you’re sure to have an unforgettable stay.
