Introducing the Phoenix 5 Mile Race!

Article sponsored by…

Phoenix 5

When Stevenage Running Club Phoenix took flight in October 2022, they knew they had to fill a gap in the Stevenage running scene – the absence of a scenic, yet challenging 5 mile race. Not too short, not too long, this distance is a favorite among running clubs and a perfect step up for non-club runners looking to push beyond the 5k mark.

Starting from the picturesque Shephalbury Park and weaving through green spaces and parks like Fairlands Valley, the race offers a scenic and runner-friendly route. From the iconic Lamex stadium to the tranquil Fairlands Valley lakes, participants will experience a mix of flat stretches and gentle undulations, setting the stage for potential personal best times.

Head Coach Chris Leigh says:

“I am incredibly proud of what our running club has achieved since we began in October. Creating a 5 mile race with a route through our main park, and highlighting a hidden gem of Shephalbury was important – Stevenage is much more than football and shopping”

But the Phoenix 5 Mile Race is more than just a run—it’s a chance to give back to the community. With proceeds going to four worthy causes: Garden House Hospice, Knebworth Foodbank, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), and Project H Defibs, every step taken during the race contributes to making a difference in people’s lives.

Thanks to the generous support from sponsors like Stevenage Community Trust and Jordan’s Cereals, we’ve been able to maximize the impact of the race. And for all finishers, there’s a bespoke medal, a choice of a t-shirt or a donation to Trees Not Tees, and a selection of finish line goodies to celebrate your achievement.

“I would like to give credit to our amazing running group members”, Chris continues.  “Our group community never ceases to amaze me, with our members giving their time, expertise and support for the race. With their support, and the support of the local community the race is going to be a great success!”

With awards for top finishers, age categories, and teams, as well as cash prizes for the first man and woman across the finish line, the Phoenix 5 Mile Race promises a rewarding experience for all who participate.

Join us on race day for a fantastic atmosphere, delicious refreshments from our coffee vendor and ice cream van, and the exciting start by none other than Daniel Fairbrother, aka ‘Fridgeman,’ a dedicated fundraiser and ultramarathon enthusiast supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital.
