Fairlands Valley Spartans
Dozens of Spartans enjoyed their traditional pre-Christmas off road run to the Minsden Chapel near Preston in North Hertfordshire. A very chilly morning but about fifty ran.
Runners had a choice – start in the Old Stevenage High Street to run about 11 miles, start at the Meadway for about 8 miles and start at the Rusty Gun for about 4.5 miles.
Parkrun Highlights 21st December – Islands North and South
34 Spartans ran parkruns on Saturday 21st. The majority, 24, were at Stevenage.
On Saturday Spartan SIMON JACKSON achieved his 50th parkrun milestone and was second in the race with 17 minutes 59 seconds.
430 ran Stevenage. That’s comparable with the 421 last week but watch out for the extra on Christmas Day!
Spartans elsewhere included two who went north and south to run on islands. ROS INGRAM was on Orkney finishing the Kirkwall parkrun in 27:10 and JUDY KING ran the Guernsey parkrun in 31:56
Stevenage Striders Running Club
It’s been a quiet week race wise for the Striders as we all wind down for Christmas and the New Year.
Our only race this weekend was by Adam Hough, who ran the Lee Valley Velo Park 5k on Saturday morning in a blistering time of 18:49, a fantastic time for someone coming back to running after a short break. Adam said on his submission “Returning to the 1.1mile length course for three laps of ‘funishment’, the course takes on a unique peak and flow of its own as it weaves through the road circuit used for the 2012 Olympics.”
Over the last few days, there have been several festive runs to admire the lights or indulge in some cake. The Striders are always there, ready, and up for any challenge!
Wednesday Night – WGC Festive Lights Trail
What a lovely little run around Welwyn Garden City on Wednesday night for the annual festive lights trail! The twinkling lights, the festive atmosphere, and, as always, the great company made it a night to remember.
Daytimers – Friday Morning Mud Fest
The Daytimers ventured out on Friday morning for a delightful mud-seeking adventure, soaking up some winter sunshine along the way. They covered an 8km trail run starting from the Lytton Arms, making the most of the season’s crisp weather and scenic trails.
