Children at a school in Stevenage had a fun and exciting day when a real-life author came to visit! Ray Star, who writes magical stories about animals and the environment, ran a special writing workshop at Woolenwick Junior School.
The pupils were really excited to meet her. Ray talked to them about how she became an author and what inspires her books. She read from her own stories and encouraged the children to use their imagination to create their own ideas.
The workshop was part of Read Aloud Stevenage, a project that helps children enjoy reading and writing more. It’s supported by Arts Council England and brings fun events like this to local schools.
Headteacher Sarah Varnell said the children had a brilliant time. “It was wonderful to see their faces light up as they listened to Ray. She showed them that anyone can be a writer if they believe in themselves.”
Ray’s books talk about protecting the planet and caring for animals, and the pupils were really interested in what she had to say. They even got the chance to ask her questions and share their own ideas.
The event helped the children feel more confident in writing and showed them how stories can make a difference in the world.
