The Inspiration Behind Six Hills CrossFit

Imagine working in an industry for a decade, only to find it lacks the very essence of care and community. That’s what happened to Jack Rowlands. He spent ten years in the fitness industry, feeling more and more frustrated. “I got bored and frustrated with the fitness industry,” Jack recalls, “which I had worked in for 10 years, and felt it didn’t serve the purpose of caring about or creating the right environment for people to want to improve their fitness and wellbeing.”

Then, in 2008, Jack stumbled upon a CrossFit video on the internet. It piqued his competitive nature at first. But soon, he realised CrossFit was much more than just a fitness trend. “I found CrossFit through a video on the internet in 2008, and what initially caught my interest (or competitive nature) soon revealed itself to be so much more,” Jack says. “It is the best program for encouraging and nurturing our drive to better ourselves as active, functioning human beings.” This revelation sparked the beginning of Six Hills CrossFit in Stevenage, and Jack has never looked back.

The Best Part of CrossFit at Six Hills

You’ll find that the most rewarding part of running Six Hills CrossFit, according to Jack, is creating an environment where people get genuinely excited about exercise. “We create an environment which gets people actively interested in and excited about exercise,” he says. “It’s not just about lifting weights or running faster. It’s about building a community.” Jack and his team of expert coaches help members achieve extraordinary things. What might seem impossible at first soon becomes a new normal for them.

The unique training format at Six Hills CrossFit fosters a strong sense of community and belonging. This is not just about physical fitness. The psychological benefits are significant too. People feel better about themselves and each other. They form bonds and friendships that make the gym feel more like a second home.

Exciting Events and Future Plans

There’s always something exciting happening at Six Hills CrossFit. This September, they’re hosting a big social event to celebrate their 9th birthday. It promises to be a great laugh with games, live music, food, and drink. Members are encouraged to bring their families along, making it a true community event. “We’re hosting a big social event for our 9th birthday party in September,” Jack shares. “It’s always a good laugh, with games, live music, food, and drink. Members can bring their families down.”

In the autumn, Six Hills CrossFit is planning another fitness competition. Over 50 athletes will participate in a range of fitness tests to crown the fittest at the end of the day. It’s an event that not only showcases the skills and strength of the athletes but also brings the community together in a fun, competitive spirit. “We’re planning one more fitness competition in Autumn,” Jack says, “which will involve more than 50 athletes completing a range of fitness tests to crown the fittest at the end of the day.”

Giving Back to the Community

Six Hills CrossFit isn’t just about personal fitness; it’s also about giving back. Recently, they started collecting for St. John’s Ambulance. They plan to run several initiatives and events to raise money for this essential service. “We’ve recently started collecting for St. John’s Ambulance and plan to run a few initiatives and events to help raise some money for them,” Jack notes.

Every year, they also hold a Remembrance Day workout to support the Poppy Appeal. Additionally, they donate monthly to Danceaid, a charity that uses dance to help vulnerable children worldwide. “Every year we complete a Remembrance Day workout to raise money for the Poppy Appeal,” Jack says. “And we donate monthly to Danceaid.”

Why Stevenage?

When looking for a place to open Six Hills CrossFit, Stevenage ticked all the boxes. It has a large population, plenty of industrial units to let, and excellent transport links. Crucially, there were no other CrossFit gyms within a nine-mile radius. This meant Six Hills CrossFit could serve as a hub for CrossFit in the area. “Stevenage had everything to offer,” Jack explains. “A large population, industrial units to let, great transport links, and no CrossFit gyms within a nine-mile radius.”

The Future of Six Hills CrossFit

Looking ahead, Six Hills CrossFit has big plans. They’re planning to offer more options for the local community. This includes specific sessions for over 50s, CrossFit Kids classes, NHS referrals, and subsidised sessions for those on lower incomes.

A Final Word

Jack Rowlands’ journey with Six Hills CrossFit is a testament to the power of passion and community. From feeling frustrated with the fitness industry to creating a thriving community hub in Stevenage, Jack has shown that with the right environment, people can achieve extraordinary things. Whether it’s through their exciting events, charity initiatives, or future plans, Six Hills CrossFit continues to inspire and improve the lives of its members.

So, if you’re in Stevenage and looking for a place to get fit, make friends, and be part of a supportive community, Six Hills CrossFit might just be the perfect fit for you.
