Last Friday, the residents of Brodie Court, an independent living scheme for people aged over 60, were treated to a special visit by the Mayor of Stevenage. Brodie Court is part of the larger Kenilworth Close development in Bragbury End, a project designed to create a comfortable and vibrant living environment for older residents.

The Mayor was warmly welcomed by the community and shared how delighted he was to meet the residents and witness the sense of togetherness in the air. He kicked off his visit by admiring a unique and eye-catching silver ball sculpture, located at the entrance of Brodie Court. The sculpture, with its tactile design, made an immediate impression on the Mayor and served as a fitting symbol for the thoughtful design that runs throughout the entire development.

A Sculpture That Makes You Think

The silver ball sculpture is more than just a decorative feature—it’s a conversation starter. With its shiny surface and interactive feel, it’s hard to miss. The Mayor himself commented on how wonderful it was to see such an artistic piece welcoming people to the development. Residents, too, are proud of this work of art, which adds a bit of sparkle and creativity to their daily lives.

This isn’t just a simple sculpture; it represents the commitment to creating a lively and engaging environment for the people who call Brodie Court home. The sculpture helps set the tone for what makes this community so special: a focus on creativity, interaction, and a sense of belonging.

What Is Brodie Court?

For those unfamiliar, Brodie Court is a new independent living scheme specifically designed for people aged over 60. It’s part of the Kenilworth Close development, a modern and welcoming space located in Bragbury End, Stevenage. This development is a key project by Stevenage Borough Council, aimed at providing comfortable homes for older residents while fostering a supportive and close-knit community.

Each resident at Brodie Court has their own private apartment but also enjoys access to shared communal areas where they can socialise and take part in group activities. The goal is to create a balanced lifestyle where independence is respected, but social connections are encouraged.

The Mayor’s visit highlighted how important this sense of community is at Brodie Court. During his time there, he spoke with many of the residents, who shared their experiences of living in this development. Several people commented on how much they value the social activities on offer, from coffee mornings to organised events in the communal areas. These activities are designed to prevent loneliness, which can often affect older adults, and instead create a positive, connected atmosphere.

One resident shared, “It’s lovely living here. We all have our own space, but there’s always something going on if you feel like joining in. It makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger.”

The Mayor’s visit to Brodie Court was not just about celebrating the success of the development so far, but also looking towards the future. He took the time to talk to staff and residents about their hopes for the coming years. The residents’ enthusiasm was clear, with many looking forward to more community-building activities and ways to improve the quality of life even further.

The Mayor praised the efforts of everyone involved in making Brodie Court such a warm and welcoming place. He mentioned how important it is to continue supporting initiatives like this that offer safe and engaging living spaces for older residents.

Kenilworth Close: A Model for Future Developments

Brodie Court is just one part of the larger Kenilworth Close development, which is setting a high standard for housing projects in the area. The development offers not only stylish, comfortable homes but also a real sense of community. This balance of private living and communal support is something Stevenage Borough Council hopes to replicate in future housing projects.

The Mayor encouraged residents and visitors to explore more about the Kenilworth Close development by visiting the Stevenage Borough Council website.
