Mayor’s Indoor Garden Party: A Wonderful Afternoon of Music and Community

Stevenage Mayor Garden Party

Despite the typically unpredictable British weather, Mayor Jim Brown’s annual Garden Party was a big success this year, even though it wasn’t technically in a garden! Held indoors to avoid soggy grounds and grey skies, the event still captured the warmth and spirit of the local community. Everyone who attended had a fantastic time, surrounded by friendly faces, great music, and meaningful conversations.

A Warm Welcome

This year’s garden party wasn’t just about music and socialising, though—it was also an opportunity for Jim to show his support for three incredible charities.

The Mayor has chosen to champion Herts Sports Partnership, Stevenage Arts Guild, and People for People this year. These charities are close to his heart, and he made sure to highlight the incredible work they do for the community. More about them in a moment!

Guests were also excited to meet some of Hertfordshire’s dignitaries, who came along to support and celebrate the spirit of Stevenage. One special welcome went to Fr Robert, who was visiting from another town, and enjoyed mingling with the locals.

Music to Remember

Of course, no garden party is complete without music, and this year’s entertainment did not disappoint. The Welwyn Garden City Brass Band, a local favourite, took the stage and filled the room with their lively and joyful sounds. Despite the indoor setting, the music created a fun and festive atmosphere.

The band even treated the crowd to a rendition of the “Floral Dance,” a traditional tune that had many tapping their feet along to the rhythm. It was impossible not to smile and enjoy the wonderful brass music filling the room.

Supporting Local Charities

One of the highlights of the day was the focus on the three charities Jim Brown is supporting this year. These organisations are doing great work in Stevenage and beyond:

Guests at the garden party were encouraged to donate to these charities, either through purchasing raffle tickets or making direct contributions. Many people were eager to support these causes, knowing that their donations would help make a real difference.

An Afternoon of Fun and Friendship

Even though the event had to move indoors, the spirit of the garden party was alive and well. The room was buzzing with laughter and conversation as old friends caught up and new connections were made. Local community members mingled with dignitaries, and everyone was in high spirits despite the grey weather outside.

One guest remarked, “It was a garden party with no garden, but we filled the room in more ways than one!” That sentiment was shared by many, as the atmosphere was filled with joy, friendship, and a strong sense of community.

The raffle also added an extra layer of excitement, with many hoping to take home one of the fabulous prizes that had been generously donated by local businesses and individuals. Whether they won or not, everyone was thrilled to be contributing to such worthy causes.

Our Mayor took the opportunity to thank everyone who had made the event possible. From the volunteers who helped set up the venue, to the band for their fantastic performance, to the guests who showed up with smiles and warm hearts—everyone played a part in making the afternoon a success.

A Garden Party to Remember

Though it may have been an indoor event, the garden party was filled with all the elements of a great community gathering: music, laughter, and a shared sense of purpose. The Welwyn Garden City Brass Band provided the perfect soundtrack, and the focus on supporting local charities made the day even more special.

So, while the weather may not have been perfect, the party certainly was. And as the afternoon came to a close, everyone left with full hearts, knowing that they had contributed to something truly meaningful.
