Birmingham Canals Canter Challenge

On Sunday Chris Leigh travelled to Birmingham to take on the Birmingham Canals Canter challenge. Birmingham has over 100 miles of canals (the largest in Europe) and the route followed 26.5 miles of those. This was a self navigation run where participants followed instructions and had to pass through five checkpoints before returning to Moseley to complete the challenge. The route passed by Sarehole Mill (inspiration to Tolkien’s Middle Earth), under the dark bowels of “Spaghetti Juction”, Mathew Boultons Soho Manufactory, Gas Street Basin – home of the International Convention Centre and  award winning Brindley Place development – Cadbury’s famous Bournville Village (Cadburys 200th anniversary this year) and Kings Norton’s Guillotine Lock. This was Chris’s 122nd marathon and the second time he has completed this challenge. He last ran it in August 2022 as part of his 52 marathons in 2022 challenge, raising over £1000 for the Ukraine appeal.Chris was pleased to complete the challenge this year in 5 hours and 46 minutes, 1 hour faster than in 2022.
