Who Would Have Thought There’s a Dinosaur in Stevenage?
Stevenage Striders Show How Running Can Be Fun, Not Just Fast
In the heart of Stevenage, something big has been spotted roaming the streets—not a real dinosaur, but something just as unexpected: a 5-mile route shaped exactly like a dinosaur, mapped out on a local run by none other than the Stevenage Striders.

At Stevenage Striders, we believe running isn’t just about speed, split times, or race medals. It’s also about fun, community, and creativity. Our latest group activity saw members set off from St Nicholas and wind their way through Great Ashby, cleverly charting a course that, when viewed on GPS, revealed a dinosaur with legs, tail, teeth, and all.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or someone who’s never laced up a pair of trainers, there’s a place for you at Stevenage Striders. We host a variety of sessions each week for all abilities—from relaxed social runs to structured training sessions—but every session shares one thing in common: it’s welcoming, supportive, and often full of laughter.
This dino-run was part of our ongoing effort to remind people that running can be joyful, spontaneous, and even a little silly. You don’t have to be chasing a personal best to enjoy the benefits of getting out and moving your body. Sometimes, the best routes are the ones that leave you smiling—especially when they leave a dinosaur behind on the map!
So, next time you’re walking through Great Ashby and someone mentions a dinosaur in Stevenage, you’ll know what they mean. Better yet, come and join us—who knows what we’ll be drawing next!
