Community Partnership Projects Celebrate Joint Launch at Stevenage Indoor Market

Opening of Sparx

Stevenage buzzed with excitement yesterday as community leaders, volunteers, and residents gathered for the grand opening of two significant initiatives under the Building a Better Bedwell Programme. The SPARX Charity Sports Shop and the Stevenage Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP) Hub marked their joint launch at the Stevenage Indoor Market, signaling a new chapter of community engagement and support.

The event, held from 10 am to 2 pm, drew a diverse crowd eager to witness the unveiling of these promising projects. The SPARX Charity Sports Shop, formerly known as Sportstraider, occupies a prominent space in Aisle 3 of the indoor market. This venture, made possible through the Safer Streets PCC grant and supported by the Stevenage Borough Council, aims to provide affordable sports retail options to the local community. The shop’s mission extends beyond retail; it focuses on training volunteers and young people in retail skills, with all profits directed towards supporting various community initiatives under the Building a Better Bedwell Programme.

The SPARX Charity Sports Shop is poised to become a cornerstone of the community. With a wide range of discounted sports equipment and apparel, the shop caters to both casual sports enthusiasts and serious athletes. Its volunteer training program is designed to equip young people with essential retail skills, enhancing their employability and fostering a sense of purpose. The shop’s profits will be reinvested into community projects, creating a sustainable cycle of support and development.

Meanwhile, the SIP Hub offers a dynamic space for community organizations to collaborate and deliver their services. From health and wellness programs to educational workshops and support groups, the hub provides a flexible environment where various stakeholders can come together to address the needs of Stevenage residents. The strategic location within the indoor market ensures high visibility and accessibility, encouraging greater community participation.
