Children at a Stevenage primary school will be able to play on new playground equipment in the new school year after a donation from a housebuilder.
Work has been ongoing to raise £10,000 for outdoor gym-style equipment to be installed in the playground which is used by Key Stage 2 children – those aged between 7 and 11 years – at Ashtree Primary School & Nursery, in Chertsey Rise.
And the fundraising target was met thanks to a £1,400 donation from Miller Homes, which is building new homes at Forster Park off North Road, Stevenage.
The housebuilder invites organisations and charities to apply twice a year for a donation from its Community Fund, which was set up to contribute towards projects which help to improve local communities.
Maria Jennings, Chair of the Friends of Ashtree PTA, said:
“The children were asked what equipment they would like to have in the playground and we have been fundraising to buy the most popular options.
The new gym equipment will give the children the opportunity to play and exercise outdoors on their breaktimes and lunchtimes which will be good for their well-being and health.
Many of the pieces are doubles, meaning two children can use them at once, so this gives them the chance to play and compete with their friends too.
We’d like to thank Miller Homes as this donation has got us to our fundraising target and the equipment is set to be in installed shortly, which everyone is excited about.”
Alastair Parsons, area sales director for Miller Homes South Midlands, said:
“There are so many benefits of children spending time outdoors and keeping active, so we were pleased to support the Friends of Ashtree PTA. We hope the Key Stage 2 children have a great time playing on the new equipment.”
