This weekend, Bike Stop in the Old Town, Stevenage is hosting a brilliant event to raise awareness and funds for two incredible mental health charities, Papyrus and Mental Health Motorbike, and it’s all happening this Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm.
The idea for this event came from Ollie, the organiser, who experienced a devastating loss earlier this year when his friend took his own life. This tragedy opened his eyes to the struggles many people face with their mental health. “I spoke to so many people who were struggling and felt like they had nowhere to turn,” Ollie shared. “It was horrible not knowing how to help them.”
Determined to do something positive, Ollie started looking into charities that offer support and soon discovered Papyrus, which focuses on suicide prevention among young people, and Mental Health Motorbike, a charity that helps those in the biking community. “I had a bit of a lightbulb moment,” he explained. “Being part of the motorbike community myself, I realised I could bring people together to raise awareness and funds for these amazing charities.”
Held at the ever-popular Bike Stop Stevenage, the event is packed with activities and the chance to make a real difference.
The highlight of the event will be a raffle with some truly amazing prizes! Local companies and individuals have been incredibly generous in donating items, and there’s something for everyone. Prizes include:
- A brand-new helmet
- A motorcycle security kit
- Professional photoshoots
- Gift vouchers
- Beautiful artwork
- Branded merchandise from various groups
- A box of delicious homemade cakes
Each ticket costs just £2, with every ticket sold supporting the cause. “I was blown away by the generosity of everyone,” Ollie said. “For every ticket sold, £1 will go to Papyrus and £1 to Mental Health Motorbike. It’s a great way to support both charities and have a chance to win something special.”
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true biking community event without plenty of motorbikes! You’ll have the chance to check out some amazing bikes, chat with fellow enthusiasts, and soak up the warm and friendly atmosphere. “Whether you’re a biker or not, everyone’s welcome,” Ollie added. “It’s all about coming together as a community.”
This isn’t just an ordinary event – it’s a chance to be part of something that truly makes a difference. “Mental health awareness in Stevenage is so important,” Ollie emphasised. “We’ve all been through tough times, and it’s vital that we support each other and make sure no one feels alone.”
By attending, you’re not only helping to raise funds but also helping to break down the stigma around mental health. “Every conversation we have brings us a step closer to creating a world where people feel safe to ask for help,” Ollie said. “That’s what this event is all about.”
