The 10k midweek league – Harlow
Seventeen members of the club travelled to Harlow on Wednesday to take part in fixture 3 of the 10k midweek league. They were part of the Stevenage and North Herts AC team. The hosts did not disappoint with a multi terrain route that produced very good times.
First home was the ever improving Alex Wasley in a time of 40 mins 13 seconds. Following him was Ian Harvey in a new age category club record of 41 mins 33 secs. Jodie Kantas was first lady home in 48 mins 27 secs whilst Ken Hall broke the over 70s club record with a time of 50 mins 51 secs.
The team have consolidated 5th position in the league, one of their best performances for many years.
The final scoring fixture is at Trent Park this Thursday (26th June).
The Herts Hobble trail marathon
Three Phoenicians took on the Herts Hobble on Sunday. This was a trail marathon where participants followed route instructions and maps to pass through checkpoints along a marathon route.
This years event was on a new route starting from Baldock. The trio visited Ashwell, Wallington (seeing George Orwell’s cottage), Redhill, Cottered, Walkern and Graveley before heading back to Baldock. It was hot but hyd route had beautiful views of the North Herts countryside.
Emma Mead, Lisa Liversidge and Phil Gover completed the route in 6 hours 37 mins.
St Albans Summer Solstice 10k
Graeme Hulstrom travelled to St Albans on the longest day on Thursday to take part in this popular 10k (455 finishers) organised by St Albans Striders. Beautiful weather and lovely route made this a treat and Graeme finished in 1 hour 2 mins 5 secs.
Midsummer Munro half
Said to be the toughest half marathon in the UK, the midsummer Munro is a run for very hearty men and ladies! Mostly on rough tracks, and including superb views over the North Downs, the Mole Gap, Denbies Vineyard, and Dorking it includes an ascent of 3680 feet. Lewis Green was the tough fellow who took it in on and clocked a time of 2 hours 54 mins 51 secs.
