The 2024 Stevenage Striders Handicap Series: A Record-Breaking Extravaganza!

What a phenomenal year it’s been for the 2024, 5 race 5km Handicap Series! The energy was electrifying, the performances were nothing short of spectacular, and the camaraderie was heartwarming. This year’s series was simply the best ever, with personal bests (PBs) being shattered left and right, and a new women’s club record set – absolutely amazing!

Fairlands Park was a dazzling sea of diamond bright and Strider colours, thanks to our dedicated runners and marshals. Our final race was a true celebration, crowned with a massive, well-deserved feast, participation medals, and trophies for our victorious champions.

Participation Soars to New Heights

This year, we welcomed 100 runners who took part in at least one race – a significant jump from last year’s 74. The enthusiasm was palpable! Even more impressive, 51 runners participated in three or more races, earning themselves the coveted participation medal.

Blazing Fast Performances

The fastest male runner this year was Abdullah Athar, clocking an impressive 5k time of 17:13. On the women’s side, Lucy Crocker led the pack with a stellar time of 21:01.

Celebrating Our Champions

The overall handicap series saw an all-female podium, a testament to the incredible talent and determination in our community. Congratulations to our top three winners: – 1st Place: Brenda Smith – 2nd Place: Sharon Williams – 3rd Place: Sarah Skene

A Heartfelt Thank You

None of this would have been possible without our fantastic team at the start and finish lines, and the marshals who strategically placed themselves around Fairlands Park. Your dedication and hard work made this series unforgettable.

With the bar set so high this year, we can’t wait to see what records we’ll break and what new heights we’ll reach in the next series. Until then, keep running, keep striving, and keep shining!

Here’s to more PBs, more records, and more unforgettable moments in the 2025 Stevenage Striders 5km Handicap series
