Whilst it was a week free of midweek league activity, members have been getting out racing over the weekend with appearances at the Ware 10s, ATW Odyssey 12 endurance event, Man vs Coast 25 mile event in the south west and Race for Life in Stevenage. Let’s look at the details.
Ware 10s
Neil Homewood and Conor O’Neill joined the crowds at the popular Ware 10’s on Sunday. Both the 10k and 10 mile races were on multi terrain routes including farm track, parkland, residential roads and tow path. Whilst it wasn’t raining, there was still plenty of wet parts on the course, particularly in the rutted areas. In the 10 mile event, Conor set a personal best time of 1 hour 14 mins 49 seconds finishing 60th out of the 269 finishers. In the 10k, Neil finished in 1 hour 45 seconds, 135th out of the 247 finishers.
ATW Odyssey 12
Odyssey 12 is a multi-terrain endurance event that sees runners tackle a 6km loop as many times as possible within a 12 hour period. The event got going at 10:30am and Katie Mitham undertook the task in a team of five. Katie completed four laps, one of which was a 5k PB. Emma Mead had her sights set on 50 miles and succeeded with flying colours by completing 14 laps (84km) in 11:25:47 and earned 2nd place for solo female.
Man vs Coast 25 mile event
Ashley Bates and Gemma Holloway travelled to Cornwall to take on this breathtaking 25 mile route. High cliffs, brooding moorland, picture-perfect beaches, crashing waves, big swells, rough-hewn rocks, water jumps, short swims and a few cheeky surprises were all in store for them!
They had a great time and finished the challenge in 7 hours 26 mins.
