This weekend marked an exciting event for Stevenage – a new pop-up shop opened its doors! If you love unique, handcrafted items and want to support local businesses, this is the place for you. The shop operates on a simple yet brilliant concept: small independent businesses can rent a shelf and showcase their products.

A Variety of Products to Discover

Inside, you’ll find a mix of items that cater to many tastes and preferences. There are beautiful flowers and plants for those with a green thumb, along with lovely candles and wax melts to create a cosy atmosphere at home. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll be delighted by the selection of sweets and cakes. There’s also an array of bath products for a relaxing soak, reed diffusers to freshen up any room, and prints and wall art to adorn your walls.

But that’s not all. The shop also offers jewellery, women’s and men’s clothing, and adorable baby and children’s outfits. You’ll find personalised products that make perfect gifts and so much more. Each visit promises new surprises, with more items expected to come in the future. We aim to have something for everyone, ensuring that every customer leaves with a smile.

A Labour of Love

“The passion behind this venture comes from my own experience running a small business.” says founder Lianne. “I understand the struggles that come with it. Supporting small businesses is something close to my heart. There’s a special joy in shopping small and knowing that you’re helping someone’s dream come true. It’s this love and understanding that drove me to create a space where local businesses could thrive.

Stevenage isn’t just a random location for this shop; it’s my hometown. There’s a unique sense of community here, and I wanted to give back in a meaningful way. Renting the shop space here felt like the perfect opportunity to connect with my neighbours and fellow residents.”

A Family Affair

This shop is more than just a business for Lianne; it’s a family affair.

“I’m running it alongside my nephew, Josh. Together, we’re making this dream a reality. But it doesn’t stop with us. Each business that rents a shelf becomes part of our extended family. Their space is essentially their own little shop within our shop. It’s a shared endeavour, and that’s what makes it so special.”

Meeting Incredible People

One of the most exciting parts of their journey has been meeting the incredible people behind these businesses. Their stories, their passion, and their dedication are truly inspiring. Every product on their shelves represents someone’s hard work and creativity. It’s a privilege for Thistle and Willow to bring these amazing businesses together under one roof.

Opening Weekend and Future Plans

The shop opened this weekend for a “soft” launch. Next month, this shop of delights is planning a larger event to showcase all the businesses involved. It will be a fantastic opportunity for you to meet the makers, learn about their crafts, and support them directly.

A Special Name

“You might be curious about the shop’s name.” continues Lianne. “It’s named after my dogs, Thistle and Willow. They’re an important part of my life, and naming the shop after them felt like the right choice. It’s a small personal touch that adds to the charm and warmth we hope you’ll feel when you visit”
