Stevenage has a new Mayor — and she’s already inspiring the community with her warmth, dedication, and passion for local people. Councillor Nazmin Chowdhury has officially taken up the role of Mayor of Stevenage, bringing her years of service and community spirit to this important position.
Nazmin has long been a familiar face in Stevenage, known for her active involvement in local issues and her commitment to making the town a better place for everyone. From supporting neighbourhood initiatives to standing up for residents’ voices in council meetings, she has consistently shown what it means to lead with compassion and integrity.
Now, as Mayor, Nazmin says she is “humbled and honoured” to take on the role — and she’s keen to use it to shine a light on the many people and projects that make Stevenage special. She also brings a professional background as a Clinical Negligence Solicitor, which has shaped her values around fairness, empathy, and speaking up for others.
Nazmin will also be using her time as Mayor to support local causes close to her heart. Her chosen charity this year is Feed Up Warm Up, a Stevenage-based organisation providing food and support to people experiencing homelessness and hardship.
The community has already rallied around Nazmin with messages of congratulations and excitement for what’s to come. As we head into a new chapter for the town, there’s no doubt that Stevenage is in caring and capable hands.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
