Mayor Jim Brown Runs the London Marathon for a Great Cause

Stevenage’s very own Mayor, Jim Brown, is swapping his mayoral chains for running shoes as he takes on the 2025 London Marathon – all in support of his chosen Mayor’s causes.

And he’s not doing it alone! The Mayoress is right beside him, both in training and on the starting line. The power pair have been hitting the roads and parks with none other than Fairlands Valley Spartans, Stevenage’s very own running club. If you’ve seen them at Parkrun on a Saturday morning, you’ll know they’re no strangers to lacing up and getting stuck in!

Mayor Brown, who’s always up for a challenge, said:

“We’ve been training hard with the Spartans and really enjoying the journey. It’s not just about running—it’s about raising awareness and supporting causes that mean a lot to us and the people of Stevenage.”

That’s right—every mile they run is helping to raise funds for the charities supported by the Mayor’s office this year. And let’s be honest, running 26.2 miles is no small feat! But with determination, community spirit, and a good pair of trainers, the Mayor and Mayoress are more than ready.

Whether you spot them training around Fairlands Valley, or see their names on the Parkrun results page, one thing’s for sure—they’re leading by example and making Stevenage proud.

👉 How You Can Help:

Let’s all get behind Mayor Jim and the Mayoress as they race towards the finish line, flying the flag for Stevenage every step of the way. 🏁💙
