Running is more than just a way to stay fit – it’s a journey that can transform your life. Whether you’re a beginner, returning from injury, or looking to connect with like-minded individuals, running clubs in Stevenage like the Stevenage Phoenix Running Club offer the perfect environment to start or reignite your running journey.

Amy’s Story: From Couch to Confidence

Amy, a former runner, knows all too well the challenges of returning to running after a long break. “When I started the Stevenage Phoenix foundation group, I was a returning runner,” she recalls. “I had a back injury and hadn’t run for quite some time.” The thought of joining a large club was intimidating, but Amy quickly found comfort in the supportive environment of Stevenage Phoenix.

“The first session went really well,” Amy shares. “There were existing runners there to welcome us and support us throughout the program.” This warm welcome helped Amy overcome her fears and allowed her to integrate smoothly into the group. What she valued most was the camaraderie she found. “I made friends quickly,” she says. “We even met on other evenings to ensure we’d get from couch to 5km by the end of the program.”

The journey didn’t stop there. Amy eventually transitioned to the main club, a step that initially made her nervous. “I remember sitting in my car on my first session not really wanting to get out!” But she pushed through, and eighteen months later, Amy looks back with pride. “I’ve made progress, feel safe, fit, and have made life-long friends.”

Amy’s advice for anyone considering joining a running club is simple: “If you’re thinking of getting active either by walking or running, want to feel safe, return from an injury, make friends, and just have that ‘feel good’ feeling, this is the club for you.”

Jo’s Story: A Journey Back to the Finish Line

Jo’s experience with the Stevenage Phoenix Running Club highlights the resilience and support that the club offers, especially for those overcoming setbacks. Jo joined the club full of enthusiasm, running up to 10 miles regularly. But in December 2022, a leg injury halted her progress, leaving her sidelined for four long months.

The injury was a tough blow, but Jo didn’t give up. By May 2023, she decided it was time to get back on track and joined the Phoenix Foundation group. “It was one of the best decisions I could have made,” Jo says. The Foundation group, designed for runners returning from injuries or just starting out, provided the perfect setting for Jo to rebuild her strength and confidence.

“The first few sessions were tough,” Jo admits. “But I wasn’t alone. The other members of the Foundation group were on their own journeys, too, and the support we gave each other was incredible.” The club’s coaches played a vital role in Jo’s recovery, focusing not just on physical progress but on mental well-being as well.

With each session, Jo grew stronger, both physically and mentally. “The Phoenix Foundation group isn’t just about running; it’s about community, resilience, and growth,” she says. By the time Jo completed her first post-injury parkrun, she felt a deep sense of accomplishment. “Crossing that finish line was a testament to the power of perseverance and the support of an amazing community.”

Jo encourages anyone thinking about joining the Phoenix Foundation group to take the leap. “Whether you’re a beginner, someone returning from injury, or simply looking for a supportive community to run with, this program is for you.”
