From Grief and Comfort Eating to National Powerlifting Competitions – Kylie’s Journey

Based at Rise Gym in the Old Town, Kylie has made a significant impact on many lives. But her journey to this point hasn’t been an easy one.

It all began over a decade ago. After the traumatic stillbirth of her first child, Kylie found herself turning to comfort food. “I gained a vast amount of weight through grief and comfort eating,” she says.

But then, life presented another miracle. The birth of her son, just over eight years ago, became a turning point. With the arrival of her child, Kylie realised that she needed to change, not just for herself, but for her family. This realisation was the spark that ignited her passion for fitness.

Starting her fitness journey wasn’t easy. She faced challenges, both physical and emotional. However, Kylie’s determination was unwavering. “I got into fitness after the birth of my son,” she explains. Through hard work and dedication, she began to shed the weight and, more importantly, find herself again.

As she transformed her body and mind, Kylie felt a new purpose emerging. She wanted to help others who might be struggling with their own battles. This led her to become a personal trainer. “I work with all types of clients, from complete beginners to more advanced gym members,” she says. Each client is unique, and Kylie tailors her approach to meet their specific needs.

One of the ways Kylie ensures her clients’ success is through technology. Each client gets access to an app where their workouts are loaded. This app is more than just a schedule. It includes detailed plans depending on how many times a week they train. It even sets their calories and macros for each day. This level of personalisation helps her clients stay on track and reach their goals.

Over the years, Kylie’s passion for fitness continued to grow. Recently, she discovered a new love: powerlifting. This isn’t just about lifting weights; it’s about testing limits and pushing boundaries. Kylie’s dedication to her new sport paid off when she came first in her age and weight class at a national competition. “I’m working towards my next competition in October,” she shares with pride.

Kylie’s journey from grief and comfort eating to becoming a national powerlifting champion is inspiring. It shows that no matter how dark the days may seem, there’s always a way to find light. Her story resonates with many, especially those who have faced similar struggles.

For those who wish to work with Kylie, she offers a welcoming approach. Any potential client can come to Rise Gym as a guest without having to pay for a day pass. This openness reflects her desire to help as many people as possible. She understands that starting a fitness journey can be intimidating, and she aims to make the first step as easy as possible.

Kylie’s clients benefit not only from her expertise but also from her personal experience. She knows what it’s like to face challenges and overcome them. This empathy makes her a relatable and effective trainer. Whether someone is just starting out or looking to take their fitness to the next level, Kylie has the skills and knowledge to guide them.

Her story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination. From the depths of grief to the heights of national competition, Kylie has shown that it’s possible to turn one’s life around. She continues to inspire others with her journey, proving that with hard work and a positive mindset, anything can be achieved.
